Southern Highlands in May

The Southern Highlands are glorious all year round, but as winter truly deepens and the frosts hit in earnest, only the hardiest plants still retain their colour. This is my favourite time of year there, spending the cold nights inside with good food and family. And the moment the first birds sing each morning, I’m out and about with my camera, enjoying the cold air and the quiet. It’s something I don’t often make the time to do in Perth; get out and explore the country and the quiet places. It gives me so much more appreciation for the time I have to do this over east, with family near and life so peaceful.

I especially like the photo of my sister; it’s rare for us to be around each other and not acting like complete idiots, so it’s usually impossible to get a decent photo of us together. This one really captures how I see her.
